Northside Spell Bowl team finishes second

Northside Middle School’s Spell Bowl Team came in second in the state in Class 1, which is the big school division.

The team, coached by Molly Fountain, spelled 70 out of 72 words correctly and was the state runner up by only one point.

Spellers with perfect rounds were Mehul Dhillon, Swastikha Saravanan, Trisha Yerragudi, Valliei Chandrakumar, Dee Iyer and Purbi Das. Spellers with eight out of nine words correct were Erica Song and Shivali Singireddy.

Preschools association awards scholarships

Columbus Association of Private Preschools (CAPPs) has donated more than $81,000 in scholarships to 70 children this year. Scholarships are available to all families that qualify financially. Scholarships are funded from church members, fundraising, preschool families and community members. December is the month to be checking into CAPPs school scholarships at local preschools. Scholarships are on a limited basis. Registration will begin in January for the 2016-17 school year.

High ability program offers testing for 2016-17

The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.’s High Ability Program will have open testing sessions in January. The January open testing is for students currently in fourth, fifth and seventh grades interested in the high ability program for the 2016-17 school year. It is also open to non-district students in grades 3 through 7.

To be considered for the self-contained Advanced Curriculum classes, students must be tested on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) and the Cognitive Ability Test (CogAT). Register online at: bcsc.k12.in.us/Domain/27.
