Robert Russell Henderson, Jr., 91, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away at Kindred Transitional Care in Columbus on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015.
Robert was born July 11, 1924 in Sparksville, Indiana, the son of Robert Russell Sr. and Lula Lucille Huffman Henderson. He married Dorothy Lee Monroe on June 17, 1978, in Crothersville, Indiana.
Robert was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He then worked at General Motors for 31 years until retiring in 1981.
Robert was an outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in his garden. He also loved to spend time with his family and dogs.
He is survived by his wife; children, Robert R. Henderson III of Scipio, Sandra (George) Crane of Columbus, Brian D. Henderson of Columbus and Joyce (Steve) Scallorn of Freetown; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Ross, Hattie Belle Carmichael and Jill (Dan) McDaniel all of Seymour; brothers Gary (Diane) Henderson of Seymour and Lonnie Henderson of Indianapolis.
Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters, Maxine Shaffer and Beverly Sue Henderson; brothers, John and Joe Henderson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Burkholder Funeral Chapel where the Rev. John Tingle will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burkholder Funeral Chapel on Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday.
Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery with Military graveside rites provided by American Legion #89, V.F.W. Post #1925, D.A.V. #47 and Vietnam Veterans #7, all of Seymour.
