Into spirit of giving? 5 agencies that could use your support on Giving Tuesday

If you are considering ways to help area nonprofits Tuesday, also called Giving Tuesday, we’ve rounded up a few that are especially promoting efforts to further their cause.

1

Pregnancy Care Centers of South Central Indiana

The agency first promoted the concept last year with a two-month push — and reaped $42,089 for its efforts to cover ultrasounds for women in Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, Jennings and Shelby counties. This time, all gifts donated Tuesday up to $30,000 will be matched. Information: 812-378-4114 or pregcarecenter.org.

2

Columbus Indiana Philharmonic

The local professional orchestra is even encouraging people to snap an “unselfie” of themselves — that is, a shot of them hiding behind a sheet of paper explaining why they are donating (music education, for instance) and post to social media while tagging the Philharmonic. Information: 812-376-2638 or thecip.org/support/

3

Turning Point Domestic Violence Services

Every donation to the Columbus-based agency’s campaign #WarmUptheShelter will be doubled via Columbus’ Kenny Glass, Inc. Gifts will directly support replacing the furnaces, air conditioners and installing insulation in emergency shelter family sleeping rooms. Organizers are hoping to raise $20,000 to go with Kenny Glass Inc.’s $20,000 match. Information: 812-379-5575 or turningpointdv.org.

4

Columbus Area Arts Council

In organizers’ words, “Perhaps you rocked it out at Johnson-Witkemper Insurance’s Biggest Block Party Ever, made a glass paperweight with Hot Blown Glass, enjoyed one of the sculptures we helped to bring to the community as part of the Columbus Sculpture Biennial or marveled with your children at Old National Bank’s First Fridays for Families performances.” If so, the arts council hopes you’ll give. Information: 812-376-2539 or artsincolumbus.org.

5

Mission Resource International

The Columbus-based, nonprofit Christian ministry offers low-interest loans to small businesses in Ghana and Kenya to cultivate self-sustaining income. For instance, one couple in Ghana needs $1,400 to help further produce an herbal ointment in demand. Information: 812-314-2927 or missionresource.org.
