Jennings wrestlers turn back Brown County

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won 12 of the 14 matches Tuesday night in rolling to a 62-6 wrestling win against Brown County.

Dalton Craig (120), Nick South (126), Andrew Herrin (152), Josh Rayburn (160), Brady Shepherd (285) all won by pin for the Panthers. Brooks Wathan (138), Sam Woolf (195) and Dennis Allman (106) won by forfeit.

Jennings’ Zane Beineke (145) and Jaylan Kirchner (170) won by major decision. Kyle Lynch (113) and Christian Redmond (220) won by decision.

Brown County’s Bristen Dial beat Peyton Shepherd 4-2 in a showdown at 182. The Eagles’ other win came from Liam Kelly at 132.

SWIMMING

Flashes sweep Olympians

The Columbus East girls matched Franklin Central with six wins, but the Flashes had more depth in a 113-64 victory. The Franklin Central boys won 113-55.

Cortney VanLiew led the East girls with wins in the 50-yard freestyle (25.10 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:03.60). Maggie Gregory took the diving competition (142.55), Brooke Statler captured the 100 freestyle (1:01.81) and the Olympians won the 200 freestyle (1:50.23) and 400 freestyle (4:04.61) relays.

The East boys picked up four wins. Chris Borowski took the 200 freestyle (2:06.34), Cordell Glass captured the diving (282.90), Austin Smith won the 100 freestyle (54.81), and the Olympians took the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.11).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lancers edge Panthers

KNIGHTSTOWN — Allie Schooler scored on an inbounds pass from Megan Rooks with three seconds remaining to lift Edinburgh to a 42-41 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Knightstown.

Bri Howard scored 15 points, and Schooler added 12 for the Lancers (3-4, 1-0), who saw a 10-point third quarter lead evaporate. Mariah Weddle and Kayli Littiken each grabbed seven rebounds.

Stars down Jennings

NORTH VERNON — Bedford North Lawrence jumped out to a 24-10 halftime lead and went on to post a 48-33 Hoosier Hills Conference win at Jennings County.

Sidney Gerkin led the Panthers (5-3, 0-2) with 12 points. Shelbi Wright added 10.
