Robert Guy Thompson, 86, of Greensburg, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at his residence. He was born May 14, 1929, at Point Pleasant, West Virginia, to Charles Bart and Delia Abigail (Waterbury) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson graduated in 1947 from Point Pleasant High School in West Virginia. He was a resident of Lawrenceburg for 13 years and had been a resident of the Letts community since 1964. He retired in 1979 after 30 years of service as a telephone lineman for Conrail Railroad. He was a member of Letts United Methodist Church, Lawrenceburg Masonic Lodge No. 4 F.& A.M., Letts Volunteer Fire Department since 1964 and Hoosier Carvers Club at Columbus and was a former member of Westport Kiwanis Club.

He married Helen Lee Middleton November 19, 1949, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, and she survives.

Other survivors include his sons, Norman L. (Christy) Thompson of Greensburg and Brian K. (Jennifer) Thompson of Fort Wayne; his daughters, Judith A. (Ray) Owens of Mooresville and Janice Kay (Ronald) Huey of Greensburg; his 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Clifford Ray and Robert G. Thompson; and brothers, James, George and Rex Thompson.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Jay Vanderbur officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Aerie Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Letts Volunteer Fire Department or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
