Local man seriously injured in 1-vehicle accident

A local man was airlifted by LifeLine helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital after suffering injuries in a one-vehicle accident on 25th Street in Columbus.

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies found James Rodarte, 30, Columbus in a vehicle on its side in a tree line on the north side of 8282 E. 25th St. at about 1:10 a.m. Thursday. His condition was unknown Thursday afternoon.

Deputies spoke to a witness who said she was an acquaintance of Rodarte and had met him earlier at the Circle K at 25th and Taylor streets in Columbus, deputies said.

The female witness said Rodarte became angry, and when she left, he followed her, deputies said. As they drove east on 25th Street, Rodarte lost control of his vehicle and hit the tree line, deputies said.

Bartholomew County Sheriff Sgt. T.A. Smith is reconstructing the accident scene as part of the investigation.
