City donates to Wreaths Across America

The city of Columbus is providing $3,125 to the Wreaths Across America program, in order to place hundreds of wreaths on the graves of local veterans this weekend.

At noon today, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Gold Star Mothers and the women’s auxiliaries from the VFW Wagner-Reddick Post 1987 and Columbus American Legion Post 24 are placing three 36-inch wreaths at the downtown Veterans Memorial.

The group, and several volunteers including Mayor Kristen Brown, will then place more than 650 wreaths on the graves of local veterans at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Wreaths Across America is an effort to remember and honor veterans from all eras, and includes wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and cemeteries in all 50 states.
