East girls, Jennings boys swimmers win dual meet

The Columbus East girls swam to a 110-61 win against Jennings County on Thursday night. The Panther boys edged the Olympians 88-83.

Cortney VanLiew won the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 7.54 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:05.76), and Brooke Statler took the 50 freestyle (26.90) and 100 freestyle (1:01.32) to lead the East girls. Lindsey Morgan captured the diving competition (147.90), and the Olympians won the 200 freestyle (1:55.94) and 400 freestyle (4:09.38) relays.

Ashton Koons won the 200 individual medley (2:32.28) and 100 breaststroke (1:18.73) to lead Jennings. Megan Koons took the 500 freestyle (6:08.12), Sierra Bott captured the 100 backstroke (1:10.30) and the Panthers won the 200 medley relay (2:10.79).

The Jennings boys were led by wins from Peyton Moore in the 200 freestyle (1:56.56) and 500 freestyle (5:19.54), Jesse Wallace in the 200 IM (2:25.19) and 100 backstroke (1:06.69) and Broderick Hageman in the 50 freestyle (23.80) and 100 freestyle (53.50). The Panthers swept the 200 medley (2:06.10), 200 freestyle (1:40.29) and 400 freestyle (3:41.91) relays.

East’s Cordell Glass won the diving (247.95), Derek Alexander took the 100 butterfly (1:06.25) and Oscar Richter captured the 100 breaststroke (1:17.59).

Panthers rout Pirates

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won the first 11 matches, including nine in a row by pin, in rolling to a 67-12 win against Greensburg on Thursday.

Nick South (126), Jaguar Marshall (132), Brooks Wathan (138), Zane Beineke (145),  Andrew Herrin (152), Cole Chandler (160), Sam Woolf (171), Jalen Kirchner (182) and Christian Redmond (195) all won by pin for the Panthers. Dalton Craig (120) won by forfeit, Victor Antunez (113) won by major decision and Brendan Sutton (285) won by decision.
