Driver critical in rural wreck

Two Columbus residents were injured, one seriously, when their motorcycle ran off the east side of State Road 11 near Waynesville.

The accident happened about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at 9692 S. Jonesville Road, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department deputies said.

The motorcycle driver was identified as Clarence M. Graham, 59, Columbus, who was flown by LifeLine helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, deputies said. He was listed in critical condition at the hospital Monday, Methodist officials said.

A passenger, Teresa Lowry, 57, Columbus, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, where she was treated and released, hospital officials said.

Graham and Lowry were alert and talking at the scene before being taken to the hospital, deputies said.

Investigators believe the motorcycle was traveling north on the highway when it left the east side of the roadway, then returned to the road before Graham lost control and the two were thrown from the motorcycle, deputies said.

Graham and Lowry were not wearing helmets when the crash occurred, deputies said.
