North Vernon
Lyndel R. Powers, 75, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:09 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2015, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Burial and military graveside rites will be at Vernon Cemetery.
Born November 15, 1940, Lyndel was the son of the late Lawrence Guy and Stellia Izella (Graham) Powers.
Lyndel served in the United States Army. He retired from Columbus Container and had also been employed at Costco and Swifty. He enjoyed hunting, turtle fishing and NASCAR.
Survivors include a son, Mike Powers of Columbus; three daughters, Shari (Keven) Burton and Carla (Jeff) Wright, both of North Vernon, and Crystal (Chris) Stall of Columbus; two brothers, Charles Thomas Powers of North Vernon and Lynn Rarey of Florida; a sister, Ethel Mae Scott of Kentucky; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Thomas Dewayne Powers, Paul Powers and Lyndel Powers Jr.; a sister, Adelle Skaggs; a brother, Ray Ogle; and granddaughter, Heather Watkins.
