Michael Allen McCarty, 63, of Columbus, Indiana,. passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Community Hospital South, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born August 19, 1952, in Columbus, Indiana, to Ward Allen and Norma I. (Ogilvie) McCarty of Columbus. He married Patty I. Churchill and she survives.

He is survived by his parents and his wife; sons, Craig Allen McCarty of Greenwood, Scott Michael McCarty of Dallas, Texas, and Zachariah Allen Cordes of North Vernon; stepdaughters, Amy (David) Long of Franklin and Sarah (Michael) Denk of Indianapolis; sisters, Mary Ann (Tyrone) Tuttle of Seymour and Tammy (Gary) Seymour of Seymour; a grandchild, Camrin C. Allen McCarty; stepgrandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Seth, Ethan and Eli; a stepgranddaughter, Addyson; nephews, Matthew and Brett Boilanger; and a great-aunt, Isla Richards of Columbus.

He was a 1970 graduate of Franklin High School and was a member of Bible Church of Columbus, Mid Hoosier Officials Association and National Rifle Association. He retired in 2005 after 35 years of service with Cummins Inc. in Columbus then was a school bus driver for three years for the Edinburgh School Corporation. He enjoyed going to Fort Myers, Florida, refereeing basketball games, the Indianapolis Speedway, hunting, celebrating the 4th of July and especially his dogs, Willy, Wally and Billie Girl. Mike was also an organ donor.

A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015, by the Rev. Jerry Day Sr. and the Rev. David Marvin at Bible Church of Columbus, 3010 10th St. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and also from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Mike’s wishes were for cremation after the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, the Salvation Army or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
