Giving hope

A Columbus family trying to recover from a Monday burglary received a helping hand from The Salvation Army and several anonymous donors.

Volunteers were on hand at church offices Friday to give Carol Gross and daughter Kianna gifts to replace those stolen during a break-in on Dec. 14.

Items includes a box of food for Christmas dinner, stuffed animals, Barbies and a new bike. Several other anonymous donors contacted the family directly with prewrapped gifts and money.

“We were in this position ourselves a few years ago,” said Salvation Army Capt. Alan Sladek. “We needed a hand then, so we were happy to offer a hand now.”

Kianna Gross said one of her favorite gifts from The Salvation Army was an American Girl doll depicting her favorite character from the popular children’s books series.
