Jake Schoenegge, Columbus East freshman wrestler

Schoenegge was named the most outstanding wrestler of Saturday’s East Invitational after winning all three of his matches by pin in capturing the 113-pound weight division to lead the Olympians to the team title. He also won by pin in a dual-meet victory against Martinsville earlier in the week.

“I just kind of block everything else out and focus on wrestling.”

FEMALE

Elle Williams, Columbus North senior basketball player

Williams scored two points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Bull Dogs’ victory against Seymour. She also had six points and nine rebounds in a win against Columbus East and four points and five rebounds in a victory at Terre Haute North.

Her performance last week:

“I think I really played my role last week. What I need to focus on is rebounding, and I think I did that pretty well.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“We say a prayer with (assistant coach) Karen (McCaa), and she talks to us gets us motivated and pumped up.”
