Carolyn Julieth Ruiz Villatoro became Columbus’ first-born New Year’s baby, surprising her parents, Magaly Villatoro and J. Carlos Ruiz, who had been told their baby was a boy. She was the couple’s first child and the first girl born in the Ruiz and Villatoro families in more than generation.

Although exact numbers were not available, many New Year’s Eve revelers took advantage of free rides home offered by Ducks Taxi Service and Royal Taxi Service, a program sponsored by Quinco Consulting Center and Koala Hospital.

1966

Bartholomew County got through the New Year’s weekend holiday without a traffic fatality, but 11 people were injured in 23 accidents checked by city and state police and sheriff’s officers. No one was injured seriously.
