Elsie M. Fortmeyer, 85, of Rushville, Indiana, formerly of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2016.

Elsie was born and raised on a farm near Jonesville ,Indiana. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and then graduated from high school in Columbus, Indiana. Elsie married Harlan Fortmeyer in 1950 and they were married for 63 years when Harlan passed away. They lived on a farm until March 1961 when they were forced to move for construction of Interstate 65. They moved to a dairy farm in Shelby County where they raised registered Jersey Cattle. The family were all active members of the Indiana Jersey Cattle Club for many years.

Elsie worked at Kroger in Shelbyville as cashier and in the office before moving to their home on Lake Pineda in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, in 1989. She and Harlan enjoyed the lake, the village and Arkansas mountains very much.

Elsie is survived by her two sons, Steven and Dinah of Columbus, Indiana, and David and Freida of Rushville, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, at Faith Lutheran Church with the funeral starting at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at CedarVale Cemetery.
