North Vernon
Merrill Eugene “Moe” Olds, 74, of North Vernon, passed away at 9:17 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at his residence.
Born July 2, 1941, in North Vernon, Mr. Olds was the son of Roscoe and Hazel Kelley Olds. He married Janice Ross on Nov. 18, 1960, in Columbus; she survives.
Mr. Olds was a 1962 graduate of North Vernon High School and served in the U. S. Army from 1959-1962. He retired after 27 years from Arvin’s in North Vernon where he worked on the assembly line. His enjoyments were hunting, fishing, bowling, playing golf and coaching girl’s softball for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Olds of North Vernon; sons, Jeffery (Jill) Olds of Shelbyville and Todd (Karen) Olds of Indianapolis; daughter, Michelle (Keith) Smith of North Vernon; brother, Franklin “Sandy” Olds of North Vernon; grandchildren, Kelsey (Kyle) Sutton, Kensley (Justin) Ashcroft, Alicia (Dave Ellis) Carpenter, Courtney Olds, Brooke (Chad) Stearns, Ryan (Brittany) Olds all of North Vernon; Kirby (Kenny) Dunigan of Franklin and Rex (Kate) Olds of Shelbyville, Bo Montwheler of Eugene, Oregon; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and three sisters.
Private Graveside Services were held at the Scipio Cemetery in Scipio with members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W. providing military graveside rites. Private Family visitation was held at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.
