Florine Unrue, 95, of Scipio, passed away at 6:18 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care in Columbus.

Born Aug. 5, 1920, in Jennings County, Mrs. Unrue was the daughter of Christopher and Martha (Eddleman) Helt Sr. Mrs. Unrue married Joseph Jacob Unrue on Dec. 28, 1942, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2009.

Mrs. Unrue was a 1938 graduate of Scipio High School and a 1942 graduate of Ball State Teachers College. Dhe was a teacher for a total of 37 years, teaching at Jennings County High School where she retired in 1982. She also taught at Paris Crossing Schools, Jackson Township Schools in Decatur County and Vernon Schools. Mrs. Unrue was a member of Scipio United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a former member of Rock Creek Methodist Church.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking and traveling, liked to go camping and enjoyed their R.V.

Survivors include a son, Ted (Patty) Unrue of Columbus; daughters, Michelle Unrue of Scipio, Martha Carpenter of Franklin and Judy (Reid) Eby of Wakarusa; a sister, Aurelia Jones of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Todd (Leslie) Unrue of Elizabethtown, Melanie (Joshua) Rosenthal of Louisville, Kentucky, Ryan (Michan) Eby and Rochelle (Dan) Gay, both of Wakarusa; and great-grandchildren, Lydia, Junia and Apphia Rosenthal, all of Louisville, Kentucky, Laura, Heather and Titus Eby, Wesley and Wilson Gay, all of Wakarusa, Indiana, and Levi Unrue of Elizabethtown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Christopher Helt Jr.; a sister, Gloriana Wells; and a great-grandchild, Ezra Rosenthal.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association or Scipio United Methodist Church.
