Donald L. Moore of Glenmoor Retirement Community, St. Augustine, Florida, passed away January 10, 2016.

Donald was born September 24, 1925, in Columbus, Indiana, to Otto and Grace Moore. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1943, enlisted in the Army Air Corps in December 1943, and was honorably discharged in December 1945 as a Flight Officer Navigator. He married Joanna Beth Hunter in 1944 and they had two children, Douglas and Diana.

Donald worked at Cosco Inc. from December 1945 through 1986, retiring as Vice President of Research and Development of New Products and part owner of the company. He was also president of the Columbus Exchange Club, a board member of the American Red Cross and American Cancer Society of Columbus, and served as Elder and teacher at Garden City Church of Christ.

The couple relocated to Gallatin, Tennessee, in 1963, still working for Cosco in the Business Furniture Division. There he was active as the Sumner County Chairman of the American Red Cross and National Chairman for the membership for Middle Tennessee, Cub Scout Master, Sunday School Teacher for First Baptist Church and Chairman for the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturing Association Engineering Committee. Don and Joanna Beth returned to Columbus, Indiana, in 1974. Joanna Beth died in October of 1982.

Don married (Barbara) Joan Foster of Columbus in 1985 and added her three children to his family. They moved to Sawgrass Country Club at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, in 1986 where he was president of the Sawgrass Property Owners Association, a member of the Sawgrass Master Association and president of Walkers Ridge Property Owners Association. They were members of Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and he was Chairman of their Memorial Service Ushers. In 2006 they moved to Glenmoor Retirement Community in St. Augustine, Florida.

Joan predeceased him in March of 2014 and his stepdaughter, Donna, predeceased him in October 2015.

He is survived by his two children, Douglas Moore (Glee) and Diana Akers (Victor), both of Gallatin, Tennessee; and his two stepchildren, Deborah F. West of Indianapolis, Indiana, and William F. Foster of Clarks Hill, South Carolina. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Moore, and his two sisters, Pauline Swaim and Marianne Taylor.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, January 13, 2016, at Glenmoor Retirement Community. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glenmoor Employees Fund, Glenmoor Scholarship Fund, 235 Towerview Dr., St. Augustine, FL, or friends are encouraged to donate to a charity of their choosing.
