Debbie Law Marr, coach of the Columbus North girls basketball team, was one of 16 women named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s Silver Anniversary Team for 1981, an annual event that recognized Indiana’s top high school seniors from 25 years earlier. As a senior during the 1981 season, she averaged 22.4 points, helped North win a sectional championship and was named to the Indiana All-Star Team.

With prospects of war in the Persian Gulf increasing, the local Army recruiting station reported an increase in enlistments, with a large portion being veterans of other wars.

For the first time, a group insurance plan was adopted by the Columbus City Council to cover all full-time city employees.
