Semi dumps gravel at county intersection, briefly closing road

A Jackson County truck driver hauling gravel escaped serious injuries when his rig rolled on its side near the Woodside Industrial Park in Columbus.

Clayton Wente, 24, of Seymour was treated for minor injuries at the scene following the 2:16 p.m. Monday mishap that briefly closed County Road 400W, just south of County Road 450S, east of Ogilville, according to a news release from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

Wente was attempting to make a left-hand turn of his International tractor trailer from 450S onto 400W when the weight of his load shifted, causing the driver to lose control and the rig to roll on the passenger side, the release stated.

The road closure was necessitated by a small amount of leaking automotive fluids that had to first be cleaned up before traffic was returned to normal, the release stated.

Deputies were assisted by troopers from the Indiana State Police and paramedics from Columbus Regional Hospital, as well as members of both the Southwest and Columbus fire departments.
