About 20 neighborhoods, nearly half of Columbus, were chosen to begin the city’s trash collection toter system in March. A specially equipped trash collection truck was scheduled for delivery in February.

1991

The Columbus Area Visitor Information and Promotion Commission announced the city would change its slogan from “An American Classic,” which had been used since 1988, to “The Discovery Continues,” designed to mesh with the community’s celebration of its namesake’s discovery of the New World.

1966

A 15-year-old Columbus High School student admitted to city police he set off an M-80 high-explosive firecracker in the courtyard at Schmitt Elementary School, knocking out four windows and doing several hundred dollars in damage.
