John H. Smith, 71, of Columbus, passed from this life at 6:58 a.m, Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Willow Crossing Health & Rehabilitation.
Mr. Smith retired from Cummins Engine in 1994 where he had worked for 30 years.
He was a member of Bethel Holiness Church, National Rifle Association and North American Hunting Club.
An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Revs. Nathan Shockley and Robert Thompson officiating.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to time of service Friday.
In keeping with Mr. Smith’s wishes cremation will take place following the service.
Mr. Smith was born in Johnson County, June 6, 1944. He was the son of John A. and Juanita Thurgood Smith.
He married, Nancy J. Lucas on November 2, 1963.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years; his daughters, Cassandra (Allen) Morrison of Elizabethtown and Nicole Henson of Columbus; a brother, Donald (Debbie) Smith of Texas; grandchildren, Jonathon (Angela) Morrison, Jessica Morrison, Joseph Johnson and Mitchell Henson; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Annetta Staley; and an infant daughter, Jennifer Smith.
