Taste of Chocolate canceled, to return next year

If you’ve got this biggest sweet tooth this side of Willy Wonka, we’ve got some disheartening news: the annual Taste of Chocolate fundraiser, which is normally the Friday before Valentine’s Day, will not be conducted this year.

Organizers with the Columbus Service League want to regroup and rethink how they can better and more efficiently put together the dessert-oriented event that has raised from $7,000 to $12,000 annually in recent years.

Proceeds benefit the Service League’s Reading Is Fundamental program, encouraging youngsters to find joy in books, and Youth Leadership Bartholomew County, teaching teens skills from résumé writing to job interviewing.

About 2,000 people have attended the past few years, according to organizers. The gathering has been conducted for 25 years and will return next year.

Karina Willats, service league president, said that the organization possibly would like to team with another agency to ease the workload of organizing the event.
