Brian Louis Schaefer, 76, of Hope, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.

Mr. Schaefer retired from the maintenance department at Arvin Industries and also had been employed at Zollman’s Electric as an electrician and Hauser High School as a janitor. A 1957 graduate of Hope High School, he was a Marine Corps veteran and a former member of Hope Moravian Church. He loved fishing, reading and doing woodworking.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Andy Kilps officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial, with military graveside rites conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard, will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Moravian Cemetery Perpetual Fund.

Born May 18, 1939, in Hope, Indiana, Brian was the son of Albert A. and Helen Lambert Schaefer. He married Shirley Cross Schaefer September 6, 1981, and she survives.

Other survivors include children, Tim Schaefer of Louisville, Kentucky, Connie Liberatore of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Pat Schaefer of South Carolina, Nicole Schaefer of Shelbyville and Tim Cross of Hope; grandchildren, Savannah, Isabella. J.R., April, Jessica and Ryan Schaefer and Devin Cross; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Kayla and Elijah Schaefer and Bently Cross; siblings, Sandra (Bob) Gilliland, Georgia McCarty and Alvin (Mary) Schaefer, all of Hope; and several nieces and nephews.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Helen, and sons, Joe and Jeff Schaefer.
