IUPUC student serves as intern at Indiana House

IUPUC student Samantha Shell is serving as an intern with the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2016 legislative session.Shell, daughter of Craig and Tina Collins, Seymour, is a 2012 Seymour High School graduate.She is majoring in business at IUPUC with concentrations in marketing and management.

Working as an intern in the House Majority Communications Office, Shell helps write press releases, creates legislative handouts and sets up press conferences.

Ivy Tech hosts honor society conference

Ivy Tech Community College’s student honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, is hosting its Indiana Region Spring Conference on March 4 and 5 in Columbus.Alpha Rho Tau, the local chapter of the honor society, will welcome about 100 Phi Theta Kappa members from around the state.The event begins at 4 p.m. March 4 at the Clarion Hotel. Keynote speaker Jason Levasseur will talk about his “Get Your Show on the Road” program. Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop and Ivy Tech Community College Chancellor Chris Lowry will also speak at the event.

The conference continues March 5 with events on the Ivy Tech Columbus campus including workshops, regional officer elections and service projects with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Youth Camp. An awards banquet will be held at the Clarion Hotel.

Trine University and Sunrise Rotary are sponsoring the conference.

Columbus student receives scholarship

FINDLAY, Ohio — Luke Hampton, Columbus, received the Philip D. Gardner Football Scholarship at the University of Findlay.
