North jumper, runner win events at indoor meet

BLOOMINGTON — Mitchell Burton won the boys long jump, and Rachel Brougher and Sierra Lax went 1-2 in the girls 3,200 meters Friday night to lead the Columbus North track teams in the Bloomington North indoor meet at Indiana University.

Burton jumped 21 feet, 11 1/2 inches to win the long jump. He also finished second in the 60 in 7.17 seconds.

The Bull Dog boys also finished second in the distance medley relay (11:13.65). Ben Rankin took third in the 3,200 (9:47.91), Harley Huser was fourth in the long jump (20-6 1/2), and Elijah Brooks finished fifth in the 3,200 (9:56.73).

Brougher finished in 11:21.28, and Lax was right behind in 11:21.86 in the girls 3,200. North finished third in the distance medley relay (13:28.65) and fourth in the 4×800 relay (10:27.87), and Johanna Anderson tied for fourth in the high jump (4-10).

Columbus East’s T.C. O’Neal finished third in the boys high jump (6-0). Sarah Park was the top girls finisher for the Olympians, taking 11th in the 60 hurdles (11.40).

Jennings County’s Justine Corya finished fourth in the girls 60 (8.11). Ricky Hendrix took seventh in the boys 1,600 (10:09.53).

Crusaders finish fourth

DAYTON, Tennessee — Columbus Christian dropped a pair of games Friday to finish fourth in the National Association of Christian Athletes Division 5 Tournament.

The Crusaders fell to Eastland Christian (Orlando, Florida) 42-34 in the semifinals after leading 23-17 at halftime. Peyton Ingram scored nine, and Logan Roth added eight for Columbus Christian.

In the third place game, the Crusaders (22-13) gave up 13 3-pointers in a 65-58 loss to Mountaintop Christian (Wisconsin). Lain Isley scored 16 points, and Roth added 15.

Evan Reed was named to All-Tournament team.
