Police investigate death of toddler

Staff Reports

NORTH VERNON — North Vernon investigators are waiting for toxicology reports in the death of a 2-year-old boy who stopped breathing sometime Thursday night and did not regain consciousness.

Investigators said there is nothing that indicates foul play, a police department press release said.

North Vernon Police officers were sent to 500 Hayden Pike at about 4:30 a.m. Friday and learned Chance Amburgey had died, officers said. Jennings County Coroner Gene Rudicel went to the home to continue the investigation with Detective Ivory Sandefur.

The boy was the son of Kathryn J. Amburgey. His cause of death is unknown, investigators said, pending the results of toxicology reports, which may take a few weeks.
