Robert “Bob” M. Burney, 96, of Hope, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hope.

He was a farmer in Bartholomew and Decatur counties and a member of First Baptist Church of Hope.

Bob enjoyed camping and gardening. He was an avid sports fan and loved supporting local teams and watching grandchildren participate. He loved being around young people and enjoyed letting them play basketball in his barn.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Mark Walker officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Hauser Athletic Department, specifying either baseball or basketball, through the funeral home.

Born on July 16, 1919, Bob was the son of Cliff and Blanche Horner Burney. He married Betty Foxworthy on Dec. 26, 1943, in Greensburg and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2013.

Survivors include children, Dianne Flack of Hope, Joe (Cindy) Burney of Gessie, Indiana, and John Burney of Hope; grandchildren, Michael (Alanie) Flack of Hope, Tony (Emily) Flack of Indianapolis, Clint and Zach Burney both of Covington, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Aidan and Jakob Flack all of Hope.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Orlif, Wardner, William and John Burney; and sisters, Irene Backous and Mary Margaret Deiwert.
