Columbus native Steve Welmer, a standout basketball player during his years at Columbus High School and an NCAA men’s basketball referee for 30 years, received the Naismith Award from the Atlanta Tipoff Club, an annual honor given to the nation’s top players, coaches and referees in men’s and women’s basketball.

Columbus-Bartholomew Solid Waste Disposal Authority announced all nonprofit organizations, such as Developmental Services Inc. and Housing Partnerships, would have to begin paying for dumping waste at the landfill.

Plans for two private recreation developments in Clay Township, one by the Elks Lodge and the other by Clifty Wheelers Motorcycle Club, were outlined.
