North grad helps team to national JUCO title

Kooper Glick scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds Saturday to help Rock Valley College (Illinois) to the national JUCO Tournament championship with an 88-75 win against Rochester Community and Technical College.

Glick, a freshman from Columbus North, had 12 points and six assists in Friday’s 87-65 semifinal win against Nassau Community College. On Thursday, he had 15 points and seven rebounds in an 81-66 quarterfinal victory against Bunker Hill Community College.

Glick averaged 13.9 points and 5.0 rebounds a game and shot 81 percent from the free-throw line for Rock Valley (33-3).

Cougars fall in finals

St. Francis, featuring three players from Columbus, fell to Indiana Wesleyan 69-66 Tuesday night in the NAIA Division II Tournament title game.

Bryce Lienhoop, a sophomore from Columbus East, had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars (32-6). Henry, a sophomore from North, added three points.

In Monday’s semifinals, Lienhoop had 13 points and 14 rebounds in a 79-55 rout of Indiana University-East. On Saturday, Henry scored 18 points on six 3-pointers in an 80-53 quarterfinal win against Keiser to become the St. Francis’ all-time 3-point leader.

North grads in WNIT

A pair of 2014 North graduates will be part of the Women’s NIT this week.

Kelsey Cunningham and Milwaukee (19-12) will play at Minnesota in the opening round at 7 p.m. today. The sophomore guard has played in all 31 games for the Panthers, averaging 3.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists.

Tayler Goodall and Florida Gulf Coast (28-5) will host Bethune-Cookman in the first round at 7 p.m. Friday. The redshirt-freshman guard has played in 23 games for the Eagles, averaging 2.4 points and 1.2 rebounds.

Milwaukee (Horizon League) and Florida Gulf Coast (Atlantic Sun Conference) secured automatic berths in the WNIT by winning their conference’s regular-season titles. Both lost in their conference tournament championship games.
