11 mailboxes reported vandalized

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating reports of 11 mailboxes being damaged near the Bartholomew and Brown county lines.

On Sunday, deputies were sent to the 13000 and 14000 blocks of Bellsville Pike, where two mailboxes were damaged, and the 2600 to 4000 block of White Horse Road, where nine mailboxes were damaged, according to a press release from the sheriff’s department.

Mailboxes are considered federal property, and it is a crime to vandalize, deface or destroy any mail deposited in them, deputies said. Violators can be fined up to $250,000 or imprisoned for up to three years for each act of mailbox vandalism.

Anyone with information about who vandalized the mailboxes is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 812-379-1650 or the tip line at 812-379-1712.
