Prayer event for police officers scheduled

Local law enforcement chaplains and a group of spouses of police officers are hosting a “Thin Blue Prayer Line” on the steps of Columbus City Hall.

The event will be 11:30 a.m. Friday as a response to recent law enforcement deaths including Howard County Sheriff’s Deputy Sheriff Carl A. Koontz, who was killed March 20.

The event will feature remarks from local clergy and the spouses.

At the end of the 15-minute ceremony, those who attend will be encouraged to join hands to make a prayer line.

Refreshments will be served after the event.

“This prayer event can be a place where we stand and acknowledge we are better together, and none of us is every alone,” said Patrick Galligar, director of pastoral care at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. “With the other chaplains of the community, we invite you to join as we pray for the safety of those who protect us.”
