2-vehicle accident leads to man’s arrest

Staff Reports

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Columbus man for operating while intoxicated — endangerment after a two-car accident Thursday in the 13000 block of East Base Road.

Gregory Watts, 56, 391 Sussex Place, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital to be checked before being taken to the Bartholomew County Jail after the accident at about 8:08 p.m.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Jon Lanning was sent to the accident and found two vehicles with significant front-end damage in a field south of the road, deputies said.

During the investigation, Watts was showing signs of impairment and told Deputy Andrew Whipker, who had arrived to assist, that he had been drinking, deputies said.

Watts is being held in jail in lieu of $5,000 bond, jail officials said.
