Joseph Lee Krager III, 73, of Columbus, passed from this life Saturday, April 2, 2016, at his home.

Mr. Krager was born July 11, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Joseph Lee and Margaret Elizabeth Williamson Krager Jr. He married Tommie Gean Gibson Catterton December 7, 1990.

Mr. Krager served our country with the U.S. Coast Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the military honor guard in Washington, D.C., before being honorably discharged August 1, 1967.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alabama and was a mechanical engineer at Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 2007 after 27 years of service.

Mr. Krager had many interests in life but none were more important to him than restoring cars and being a University of Alabama football fan.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Tommie; a daughter, Regina Lee (Joe) Flynn of Perry Hall, Maryland; a stepson, Todd Catterton of Scipio; grandchildren, Shannon Hicks of Perry Hall, Maryland, and Markus and Catherine Catterton of Scipio; a sister, Donna Lee (Larry) Neebe of Fort Myers, Florida; a brother, Gary Lee (Imogene) Krager of Whitwell, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Sue Krager of Cape Carteret, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Krager was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alan Lee Krager.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Virgil Clotfelter officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday.

Military honors will be presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
