Michael Raymond Frede, 65, passed from this life March 21, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona, where he had lived for the past 25 years.

Mr. Frede was born June 13, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Raymond V. and Jane M. (Gilmore) Frede, who survive him. He is also survived by his brother, William W. Frede; his sister, Margaret J. Frede; a niece and a nephew, Kelly and Sean Frede.

The Frede family moved to Columbus in 1958. As a teenager, Mike was a newspaper carrier for “The Evening Republican” which is now “The Republic.” He also worked at the Camera and Hobby Shop while in high school. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1968 and attended Purdue University. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the nuclear submarine the USS Aspro and attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

After leaving the Navy, Mike worked for nuclear power plants including Three Mile Island in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and power plants at Idaho Falls, Idaho, Monticello, Minnesota, and Phoenix, Arizona.

Mike was an accomplished photographer, a computer expert who assisted many and loved hiking in the Grand Canyon.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Marc Vance officiating.

Inurnment will take place in the church columbarium. Full military rites will be presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Family and friends may gather for a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Mike’s family wishes that donations be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in his memory.
