Tree give-away event April 29

The Bartholomew County Soil & Water Conservation District, 1040 Second St., will have its fifth annual Tree Give-Away from 5 to 7 p.m. April 29, which is Arbor Day.

About 1,200 trees will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis with a limit of six trees per person.

Redbud, flowering dogwood, Norway spruce, bald cypress, pecan and red oak trees will be available.

During the tree giveaway, the district is asking for voluntary donations to the Bartholomew County Humane Society. Items being sought are new or gently used pet toys, Iams dry dog or cat food, dog biscuits, blankets or rugs, heavy-duty trash bags, baking soda, cleaning supplies, paper towels, non-scoopable clay cat litter and stainless steel bowls.

Children who stop in will be able to make pine cone bird feeders at the event.
