Letter: Thanks for helping pick up the tab

From: Jeff Blasdel

Columbus

We have a new, first-time champion. Thanks to all the schools from Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. for participating in our 2015-16 pop tab collection contest. Busy Bees Academy collected 162 pounds of pop tabs with only 169 students enrolled, or 1,263 tabs per student, and placed first in this year’s competition.

The 2016 winners are:

  • First Place – Busy Bees Academy, 162 pounds (1,263 tabs per student)
  • Second Place – Rockcreek Elementary, 213 pounds (786 tabs per student)
  • Third Place – Richards Elementary, 288 pounds (669 tabs per student)

Congratulations to our three winners. Also congratulations to Mount Healthy Elementary, winner of the drawing for the special program from kidscommons. It also was very close to third place with a total collection of 178 pounds, which put it at 525 tabs per student. Richards Elementary had our largest collection this year with 288 pounds, which was also one of the biggest increases from 2015. Our total collection was up about 4 percent over last year at 1,543 pounds, and once again we collected over 2 million tabs. This will enable us to donate $771.50 to the Ronald McDonald House. Prices for aluminum are down considerably this year, but Art Kroot was very generous in paying us more than the market rate, since he knew the money was going to the Ronald McDonald House. This is very close to our 2015 donation.

We did not have any schools achieve million tab milestones this year, but several are getting very close to their next level. Through our 15 years of the pop tab contest, we have collected over 31 million tabs and donated $14,464 to the Ronald McDonald House. This would not be possible without all the students, parents, teachers, friends and family who have supported this project.

Thanks again for your continued participation and efforts in helping us make a difference in the lives of critically and terminally ill children and their families.
