China, Taiwan Ethnic Expo co-hosts

China and Taiwan will be the co-host countries for the 33rd annual Ethnic Expo set for Oct. 7 and 8 near Columbus City Hall.

The two-day festival fosters understanding and an appreciation of Columbus’ diverse population.

The Chinese Association of Columbus, Indiana, a member of the Columbus Area Multi-Ethnic Organization, will represent China and Taiwan at the expo, and the cultures and foods of each will be featured in the main booth of the festival village and during the expo parade.

Ethnic Expo celebrates the traditions and customs of more than 30 countries with residents who live in Columbus. The festival was founded in 1984 by a committee spearheaded by then-Mayor Bob Stewart’s wife Barbara, to highlight the city’s diverse ethnic heritage and to celebrate different cultures and customs.

About 35,000 people attend Ethnic Expo every year.
