Letter: Benjamin has passion to help community

Bartholomew County has been fortunate to have an outstanding Circuit Court judge in Steve Heimann. He is a true class act and has demonstrated that an intelligent, hard-working and caring judge adds tremendous value to the position.

It will be difficult to see Steve retire from the bench, but the good news is that we have a uniquely qualified and impressive attorney to take his place. That person is Kelly Benjamin. Recent letters to the editor have highlighted Kelly’s extensive legal experience, her remarkable and effective volunteer service to youths and adults, and her strong work ethic. Permeating all of this is her exemplary personal style.

She is extremely bright, caring, hard-working, passionate about helping others and committed to providing the highest level of service as a judge, always striving to find ways to provide positive help to all impacted by legal decisions. Her strong work ethic and passion for helping others have been evident throughout her years of legal work in our community. And to top it all, she has a ready smile and a delightful way of brightening the day for those around her.

One has only to talk to Kelly to understand that she truly cares about serving in the best possible way, always seeking to provide decisions that are in the best interests of all. Her 24 years’ experience handling all kinds of cases from minor ones to homicides, speaks to her professional abilities. But equally important is knowing that she has been recognized for her leadership, integrity and compassion through the numerous awards she’s received.

These include the local chamber’s Women in Leadership Award, Turning Point and Healthy Communities’ Volunteer Awards, and Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s Outstanding Prosecutor Award.

She is an experienced and highly effective attorney, an outstanding and tireless community volunteer, and a devoted wife and mother.

I am proud to say Kelly Benjamin has my full support for Circuit Court judge. I know she is the right one to build on the outstanding service record of Judge Heimann. I invite you to join me in voting for her on the Republican primary ballot during early voting or on May 3.
