Police recover stolen moped, arrest driver

Columbus police arrested a local man after they said they saw him driving a stolen moped.

At 2 p.m. Friday, Michael B. Purdue, 44, 720 Maple St., told police he had hot-wired the moped because he had lost the key, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police spokesman.

Purdue was stopped in the 1500 block of 13th Street after police were sent to investigate a stolen moped, Harris said. When Purdue was placed under arrest, officers located two counterfeit $100 bills in his wallet, Harris said.

Purdue was arrested on charges of auto theft, counterfeiting/forgery and an Indiana parole warrant, Harris said. He is being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
