Jerilyn S. Manlief, 74, of Westport, passed away at 4 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 28, 1941, in Greensburg, the daughter of Herbert V. and Lucille (Ford) Houze. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson Township in Decatur County and graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1959. Jerilyn retired from the South Decatur Elementary School in 1995 after 18 years of service and she had worked for the Public Telephone Company in Westport for four years.

She was a member of Sardinia Baptist Church since 1952 where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, Deaconess and choir member. She was also a member of the American Baptist Women’s Ministries where she had served as historian and served on the finance committee, summer conference committee, World Wide Guild and rosebud leader. Jerilyn was a member of the former Baker’s Dozen Home Ec. Club where she had served as president and had been a volunteer for Our Hospice of South Central since 1992.

She enjoyed collecting Precious Moments and going to the Smokey Mountains.

She married Carl W. Manlief in Sardinia on August 2, 1964, and he survives.

Other survivors include her daughter, Ardena (Ron) Mullikin of North Vernon; her son, Dwight (Melissa) Manlief of Osgood; her sister, Marilyn (David) Trosky of Linton; her grandchildren, Aaron Amis and Shaylee Mullikin both of North Vernon; her step-grandchildren, Brittany Hartley of North Vernon and Alyssa McKewon of Osgood.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Dwight Eugene and Maurice Houze.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the Sardinia Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Rust, Connie Barr and Danny Houze officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made through the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
