Did it start? Cummins tries to fire up 1952 diesel Indy 500 pole winner. Watch the video.

Cummins Inc. celebrated its historic ties to the Indianapolis 500 today by starting its 1952 Cummins Diesel Special No. 28 for the first time since 1999.

The car won the pole position averaging a qualifying speed of 138.010 miles per hour.

After the race, the car would make appearances in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, various trade shows, the Indiana State Fair and ultimately spending much of the past 30 years in the lobby of the Cummins Inc. corporate headquarters.
