Alvin Neal Scifres, 81 of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana.

Born July 3, 1934, in Crothersville, Indiana, he was the son of Clarence A. “Curley” Scifres and Mary L. (Sage) Scifres.

Neal was a 1952 Crothersville High School graduate and served in the United States Marine Corps.

On June 29, 1956 in Uniontown, Indiana, he married Janice M. (Gibson) Scifres who survives in Columbus, Indiana. After retirement they enjoyed spending winters in Bradenton, Florida.

Neal retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1995 after working for 39 years as a customer service representative for parts distribution.

He was a member of East Columbus Christian Church and Haw Patch Conservation Club in Hope, Indiana. Neal enjoyed walking, riding his bike, fishing, NASCAR and, most of all, loved being with and bragging about his grandkids.

Other survivors include two daughters, Dana Burton and Shelly (Scott) Smith both of Columbus, Indiana; four grandchildren, Brooke (Tyler) Grace, Kelsey Smith, Branden Smith and Jessica (Sam) Niese all of Columbus, Indiana; six great-grandchildren; and a  brother, Marvin “Dink” (Kay) Scifres of Crothersville, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Roger Burton.

Pastor Ron Bridgewater will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Crothersville, with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, and after 10 a.m. Saturday, both at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville.
