MALE

Austin Proffitt, Columbus East senior golfer

Proffitt fired a 74 on Saturday at Valley View to win medalist honors and led the Olympians to a runner-up finish in the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.

“I calm myself down. I don’t want to get too hyped up for a golf match, which is different from every other sport.”

“Go to state, and just be the best I can be. If I’m doing the best I can, that’s all I can ask for.”

FEMALE

Justine Corya, Jennings County senior track athlete

Corya won the 100, 200 and 400 meters and run on the second-place 4×100 relay team to lead the Panthers to a runner-up finish in the Jennings County Sectional.

Her performance last week:

“I feel pretty excited about it. I feel blessed that I can be able to run all three events like this.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I always eat Subway to prepare for a meet. I basically focus all day on my events and the times I need to run.”

“I hope to run in college at Indiana State University.”

“Probably Egypt. There’s so much history there, and I’d love to see the Pyramids. I’ve always wanted to go there since I was little.”
