Photo Gallery: Folded with care

The Student Veterans Organization at Ivy Tech Community College conducted a formal flag-folding ceremony May 20 outside Poling Hall. Two members of the organization, Rob Critney and Sean McCord, properly folded the flag while the organization’s adviser, Pat Vercauteren, read the meaning of each of the 13 folds. The flag that was folded belongs to LaVeena Rebber, financial aid assistant at Ivy Tech Columbus. It was draped over the casket of Rebber’s father, Clarence East, a U.S. Army veteran, at his funeral. Rebber requested that the Student Veterans Organization refold the flag to fit correctly in a display case. The ceremony mixed elements of a military funeral and a Memorial Day service. The bugle call for lights out, taps, was played as the flag was presented to Rebber. The Ivy Tech Student Veterans Organization has about a dozen members. Both Critney and McCord served in the airborne division of the U.S. Army and are veterans of the Gulf War.
