Larry D. Murphy, 78, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away at 7:03 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

He was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Bedford, Indiana, to the late Patterson and Anna (Cummings) Murphy.

Larry graduated from Heltonville High School with the class of 1956 and served his country in the Army Reserves. He retired from Cummins, Inc. as a marketing manager where he had worked for 44 years. He was a member of the Columbus Community Church and was an avid golfer.

Larry married Betty J. (Smith) Murphy on June 13, 1981, and she survives. He is also survived by a son, David (LeAnn) Bushong of Orlando, Florida; daughters, Shonja (David) Miracle of Bedford, Rebecca Lutgens of Bedford, Lisa (Barry) Von Lanken of Fort Wayne; and sisters, Margie Hamilton of Bedford and Wilma Fordyce of Chester, Pennsylvania. Larry also leaves behind his grandchildren, Kayla Rodman, Kristen Conn, Isabella Lutgens, Jason Von Lanken, Aaron Von Lanken, Ryan Von Lanken and Lauren Yager; and a great-granddaughter, Clara Von Lanken.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jamie Murphy; brothers, Merlin, Harold, Fred and Charles Murphy; and a sister, Barbara Little.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Jewell­-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th St., with the Rev. Chuck Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the Murphy family from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
