Congressman honors local eighth-graders

Ten eighth-grade students from Bartholomew County and two from Jennings County were honored by U.S. Rep. Luke Messer, R-Ind., for their 2015-16 school year achievements.

Students from across the 6th congressional district were selected by their teachers and were presented the Eighth Grade Scholar award by Messer on May 19 at a ceremony at Batesville High School.

Those honored from Bartholomew County were:

•Bhavey Jain and Jennifer Kang of Central Middle School

•Melanie Taylor and Sam Johnson of Hauser Junior High School

•Vivek Hebbar and Emie Kiser of Northside Middle School

•Elizabeth King and Cameron Wischmeyer of St. Bartholomew Catholic School

•Alyssa Schultz and Noah Voelker of White Creek Lutheran

Also honored were Wyatt St. John and Abigail Rowlett from Jennings County Middle School.

New pre-K class offered

First Presbyterian Church is offering a new afternoon prekindergarten class for the 2016-17 school year. The class begins Aug. 15 and will be from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The Cost is $195 per month.
