Ethel Bernice Perkins, age 88, of Columbus, died Monday, May ­23, 20­16, at 6:21 p.m. She and her husband, David Perkins, had resided in their home for 54 years which he and her brother, Clarence Olmsted built in 1958.

Born on Aug. 14­, 1927, in Ogilville, Ethel was the daughter of Hallie and Alverna Taylor Olmsted. She married David Perkins on Oct. 3­, 1946, in North Vernon. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2006.

Ethel was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church where she had served as a kindergarten teacher for approximately 12 years. She and her husband enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching and spending special times with their three children and their families.

Ethel is survived by her daughters, Pamela K. (Bruce) Gerber of Largo, Florida, and Joyce L. (Ronald) Padgett of Clearwater, Florida; her son, Kevin D. Perkins of Edinburgh; grandchildren, Garan D. (Nichole) Perkins of Edinburgh, Rachel L. (Ryan) Greene of Henderson, Nevada; great-granddaughter, Aria Perkins of Edinburgh; sister­-in-­law, Norma Ball of Loveland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Deborah Sue Perkins; daughter­-in-­law, Kay Perkins; brothers, Carl, Glen and Clarence Olmsted; sisters, Olive Newland, Ruth Henderson, Josephine Smith, Christine Warner and Edna Steele.

A celebration of Ethel’s life will be at noon Friday, June 3­, 2016, in Myers-­Reed Chapel with Chaplain Kevin Carty officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. A gathering of families and friends will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials for Ethel may be directed to Premier Hospice in Seymour or the charity of the donor’s choice.
