Police arrest local man after stabbing

Columbus police arrested a man on charges of battery with serious bodily injury after he was accused of stabbing an acquaintance during the course of an argument.

Edward J. Goebel, 46, 4659 Breckenridge Drive, was arrested on preliminary charges of felony battery with serious bodily injury, felony possession of marijuana over 30 grams and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers were sent to a residence in the 4600 block of Breckenridge at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday where they found a man holding a towel against his stomach, Harris said. Officers found Goebel after he left his residence, Harris said.

The victim, a 40-year-old male, told officers he had gone across the street to speak to Goebel and an argument began, Harris said. The victim was stabbed in the course of the argument, Harris said. The victim was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital where he had surgery, Harris said.
