Athletes of the Week – June 2

MALE

Triston Perry, Columbus North junior track athlete

Perry finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in the Franklin Regional to qualify for Saturday’s Boys Track and Field State finals. He also missed qualifying by one spot with a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles.

His performance last week:

“I thought it could have been a little better, but overall, it was a pretty good performance.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I just eat some peanut butter and jelly and sleep a little bit.”

FEMALE

Madelyn Sanders, Columbus North sophomore tennis player

Sanders won all three of her matches at No. 3 singles to help the Bull Dogs to regional and semistate titles and a berth in Friday’s state quarterfinals. Her three-set victories against Bloomington North and Evansville Mater Dei broke 2-2 ties.

Her performance last week:

“It wasn’t the best tennis I’ve ever played, but it was pretty good for the conditions and how the girls hit.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“We blast music off of Hannah Frey’s speaker, and I always put my hair in a lucky bun.”

“Don’t be stressed out too much. It’s just one match. I need to play my best.”
